Q. How long and how often should I use it?
A. We recommend you use your Health Station at
least 3-4 times per week
for 10-20mins per session. You can use your Health Station everyday
however it
is not recommended to do more than 20 mins per session. When you first
start
out we suggest you start on lower speeds and amplitudes and for shorter
time
periods and progress up.
Q. Can it replace my entire fitness program?
A. This really depends on what your current
fitness program is. Vibration
training can increase muscle tone and strength, reduce body fat,
increase
flexibility and mobility, improve co-ordination and core stability and a
whole
range of other benefits. It is not however a cardiovascular workout and
is not
going to increase the size of the heart muscle. You can get a cardio
vascular
workout by incorporating dynamic and aerobic movements into your workout
to
further elevate your heart rate. If you don't currently do any
cardiovascular
training then yes it can replace your current fitness program. However
we
recommend you use your Health Station in conjunction with cardio
vascular
exercise.
Q. Are there any benefits if I am already fit?
A. The Health Station is beneficial for all
levels of fitness. Apart
from all the benefits already mentioned, which apply to people with all
levels
of fitness, the Health Station complements other forms of exercise. It
makes a
great tool for warming up and cooling down, injury prevention and
rehabilitation and for days where you just don't have time to do your
usual
exercise routine. There are a variety of research articles below that
demonstrate where Vibration Training has been used to enhance the
performance
of professional and amateur athletes.
Q. Do I need to have an instructor?
A. No, Health Station comes complete with a
detailed instructional DVD
which shows you how to do all the different exercises correctly and
safely.
Q. Do gyms have them?
A. Yes, many gyms use Vibration training and the
number is increasing
all the time, in some cases you need to pay additional fees to use the
machine
or it must be done as part of a personal training program. There are
also
specialist studios for Vibration Training.
Q. Is it safe for all ages?
A. We do not recommend Health Station for
children under the age of 14.
It is a form of resistance training and young children's muscle and bone
structure is not yet fully developed. Health Station is very beneficial
for
elderly people. We have even had one customer who is 101 years old and
has
experienced great benefits.
Q. Who should not use it?
A. There are a range of contraindications listed
at the bottom of the
Active and Platinum pages, please click here to view them. If
you have a condition on this
list it does not mean you definitely can't use the machine, we just
advise you
seek medical advice first. For some of those conditions Vibration
Training is
being used as a form of rehabilitation and the research is an ongoing
process.
It does depend on your individual condition and circumstances. If in
doubt
always seek medical advice.
Q. My doctor doesn't know about WBV, what do I
do?
A. WBV is becoming increasingly known
internationally and with this the
knowledge of how to apply vibration training is also growing. If your
doctor,
physiotherapist or specialist wants to know more about vibration
training,
please refer them to this website where they can find information and
links to
scientific studies and research.
Q. Is it safe for your organs?
A. Yes, there have never been any reported
adverse affects to your
organs. If, however, for any reason you experience an abnormal pain or
sensation while using the machine please stop and consult your doctor as
you
may have an underlying problem that needs to be addressed.
Q. Is it safe for people with diabetes?
A. We have many customers who have diabetes and
have experienced
exceptional benefits from using the machine. However you have to be
aware that
Vibration Training will cause your glucose levels to drop rapidly so you
need
be cautious. We recommend people with severe diabetes consult a doctor
prior to
using the Health Station.
Q. How does it help with varicose veins?
A. Blood from the lower limbs is pumped back to
the heart using valves
in the blood vessels, which stop the blood returning to the lower
extremities.
Varicose veins are caused when these valves leak. As vibration training
causes
a huge increase in circulation it can improve the return of blood from
the
lower limbs if used on a regular basis, especially when performing
exercises
dynamically. It should be noted that we advise you to massage around
varicose
veins manually before using the Health Station for massage exercises.
Q. How does it benefit people with Arthritis?
A. Arthritis is a widely common disease among the
elderly that causes
the amount and quality of cartilage in the joints to slowly diminish
resulting
in the joint itself absorbing the impact of daily activities. Exercise
is
important for arthritis sufferers as it slows the deterioration.
Vibration
training can increase flexibility, muscle strength and coordination.
Vibration
training effectively stimulates the cartilage by increasing the flow of
synovial fluid which pumps essential nutrients into the cartilage.
Vibration
training also strengthens the muscles, ligaments and tendons which
support the
joints. These effects will allow people with arthritis to remain
stronger, more
mobile and agile for longer. On top all the other great benefits like
increased
blood circulation and lymphatic drainage; it's also low impact making it
an
easy for of exercise for arthritis sufferers. Caution: people with
arthritis do
however need to be careful not to overdo it and be aware that
anti-inflammatory
medication and sedatives may inhibit your ability to judge the level of
taxation on the body.
Q. How does it benefit people with Osteoporosis?
A. Osteoporosis occurs when bones lose minerals,
such as calcium, more
quickly than the body can replace them, leading to a loss of bone
density.
Bones are rebuilt via a two part process; Osteoblasts and remodel bones.
Osteoblasts deposit new minerals and collagen back into the bone. They
are
stimulated by pressure being exerted on them when bearing weight hence
why
weight bearing exercise is recommended for Osteoporosis sufferers.
During
Vibration Training the body's weight bearing structures are being loaded
and
unloaded during every vibration. Therefore if the plate is travelling at
20hz
that means the bones are undergoing 20 weight bearing exercises per
second and
you're exercising up to 90% of the muscles in the body at the same time;
a feat
that is very hard to replicate with traditional exercise. This
significantly
increases Osteoblasts and can be further enhanced by adding additional
weight
such as dumbbells.
Q. How does it benefit people with Fibromyalgia?
A. The research into the benefits for
Fibromyalgia are in the early
stages so we do not yet know exactly how it improves Fibromyalgia.
Trials so
far have found that Fibromyalgia sufferers who used WBV experienced
significant
improvements in both pain and fatigue compared to those who used only
traditional exercise methods. You can read
more about the findings by clicking here.
Q. How does it benefit people with Parkinson's
disease (PD)?
A. The research into WBV and PD is also in its
infancy. However the
trials so far show that WBV significantly improves the clinical symptoms
of PD
patients, such as loss of gait, tremors and akinesia. Another study also
showed
that WBV is even more effective in reversing many of the clinical
symptoms of
PD patients compared to conventional physical therapy. You can read
more about these finding by clicking here.
Q. How does it increase flexibility?
A. Vibration training uses the Janda Stretch
method to increase joint
mobility. In this process, the muscle contracts and relaxes and all
muscles and
joints that are utilised during the exercise are fully mobilised.
Q. Is it normal to experience an itching
sensation?
A. Yes, it is quite common and is caused by the
significant increase in
blood circulation. It is only temporary and should go away a few minutes
after
you finish your session. Over time you will notice this sensation will
decrease
as your blood circulation improves from using the Health Station.
Q. Which form of WBV is best?
A. The 2 most common forms of WBV are Oscillating
vibration and Vertical
vibration. Many companies will try and tell you that the type they sell
is
superior. The truth is they are both incredibly beneficial and share
most of
the same benefits. However, research suggests, they both have advantages
over
the other: Oscillating vibration is said to be better for weight loss,
improving balance and core strength, toning the midsection and improving
mobility in the lumbar area. Vertical vibration is said to be better for
toning
the legs and lower part of the body and the arms and shoulders when
doing upper
body exercises, increasing bone density and improving blood circulation
and
lymphatic drainage. In many cases it also comes down to personal
preference of
what you enjoy using and what makes you feel good. The big advantage
with
Health Station Platinum is you get both Oscillation and Vertical in the
one
machine giving you 3 different modes of operation so you get the best of
all
the possible benefits. And it's only a fraction of the cost of other
leading
single function machines.
Q. How do we choose between different brands of
machines available on
the market?
A. There are a wide range of machines available
on the market ranging
from a few hundred dollars up to $15,000 and in most cases, particularly
at the
lower end of the market; you get what you pay for.
If you're purchasing a home use model in the
lower end of the market it
can be very confusing because many of the machines look similar but the
quality
is usually vastly different. You want to make sure you get a machine
that has
good features, is user friendly, well designed and with a strong
construction.
Check the weight capacity and warranty; it's usually a good indication
of the
quality of the construction, engineering and motor. If possible, try out
the
machine before buying and see how it feels on the body. Different
machines that
look similar can feel very different depending on how they're built. And
very
important is to consider the company behind the product, do they seem
reputable
and are they going to stand behind you if anything goes wrong.
If you're looking for a more expensive machine or
a commercial model you
start to see much bigger differences in what is available in terms of
features
and functionality. The most established companies sell their commercial
machines upwards of $10,000 and a large part of this is to fund all the
research studies that they commission. Now that the technology is
becoming more
accepted, many smaller companies are able to offer similar quality
machines at
much more affordable prices. When purchasing a premium machine look at
the
features and functionality and what it's capable of and once again try
it out
if possible.
At Health Station we strive to bring you
innovative and top quality WBV
machines at a price that won't break the bank. The new Health
Station Platinum is a world first and has a combination of
features
and functions unmatched by any other company and at a fraction of the
price of
other leading machines.
Q. Is it safe to use upstairs or in an apartment?
A. Yes, very minimal vibrations transfer through
the feet having
virtually no impact on the floor. It is however advisable to have the
machine
on a hard surface to ensure it is stable.
